Transition Year Biodiversity Programme
We are Ireland's biodiversity education organisation for young people and the largest provider of nature training programmes for Irish schools.
Our workshops offer a unique opportunity for your students to work with experienced teachers and scientists such as ecologists, zoologists, botanists, environmental scientists, horticulturists - all with extensive education experience.
Our TY Biodiversity Programme offers a flexible approach to learning about biodiversity and taking action to protect it. Most schools we work with are interested in creating or further developing a biodiversity/ conservation area or school garden. To achieve this we can visit your school to introduce your students to the topic of biodiversity, help them survey the site and explore ideas to boost biodiveristy. Excitingly, for each workshop booked, we purchase and rewild 1sq m of land through our ReWild Child Project.
There is huge potential when studying biodiversity and we are also available for other projects within secondary schools from introductory sessions for all classes to planning workshops with Green Schools Committees.
On a whole-school level biodiversity is not only a fantastic issue to explore within individual subjects but can also create strong cross curricular links. Teachers have designed biodiversity projects to include many subjects such as SPHE, CSPE, Biology, Science, Geography, Agricultural Science, PE, Construction, Art, Design and Communications Graphics, Home Economics, the Leaving Certificate Applied programme as well as endless possibilities within TY, from food growing to entrepreneurial projects.
