Ponds

Create a Micro-Pond

This is so simple. All you need to do is sink a watertight container (eg: at the very least a dish, bowl, basin, bin lid or tray) into the ground. Fill with rainwater to a depth of 3-4 inches. It will be no bigger than a puddle.

Add some clean sand and gravel as a bottom layer (for bugs to burrow). Ensure the edges are shallow (allowing frogs to walk in and out easily), if not add a stick or stone for animals that fall in to get out easily.

Finally, place a rock/ large stone or two in and around the pond for shelter. Simple! Standby for the wonderful arrival of dragonflies and frogs, bird and bugs!

And don't forget, you really need to make sure the edges are shallow or the pond is escapable if a hedgehog falls in.
